February President's Letter

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend NAPE this year but I know many of you did. With an estimated 12,275 attendees, the event participation is on the uptick again and competing with past years when oil and gas prices were better than they are today. Based off of the conversations I have had with landmen who did attend NAPE, I understand there was a sense of optimism about the industry and many feel we are emerging out of survival mode and getting to the point where companies can put meaningful wins on scoreboard.

Ryan Duffy of Andrews Davis, P.C., spoke at our monthly luncheon sponsored by Native Exploration Holdings, LLC and held on February 5, 2018. Duffy’s presentation focused on the 2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and what it means for landmen and companies across the industry. You can find a link to the presentation at www.ocapl.org under Past Events.

Tom Robins, former Deputy Secretary of Energy of Oklahoma and now Founder and President of the Energize for Safety Coalition, was the featured speaker at our Monday night meeting in February. Robins discussed the community impact of oil and gas operations from a policy maker’s point of view. It was a fresh take on how each life cycle of the exploration and production process impacts towns and communities across the state.

The 2018 AAPL Annual Meeting registration is open! This is the 64th occurrence of the Annual Meeting and will be held in Denver, Colorado June 20 through the 23. Much like NAPE, the Annual Meeting is a great opportunity to network, plus it provides multiple opportunities to get CPL/RPL credits. A schedule of events is available and registration can be completed at www.landman.org.

As usual, you can find a Calendar of Events detailing upcoming opportunities to utilize your OCAPL membership on the next page. Please be mindful of RSVP’s when attending the luncheon or dinners! We appreciate you letting us know in advance if you plan to attend either event. And as always, should you have any suggestions, questions or concerns regarding OCAPL, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Matt Beavers

2018 OCAPL President
