PRESIDENT'S MARCH LETTER
Dear OCAPL Members,
The energy industry continues to evolve at a remarkable pace. For land professionals, being informed about such developments is critical to understanding how our industry, and the workforce that supports it, will change in the months and years ahead.
The United States remains the world’s leading producer of oil and natural gas with domestic crude oil production expected to remain at elevated levels through 2026. While production continues to be robust, producers are prioritizing capital discipline, operational efficiency, and technological innovation over aggressive leasehold expansion strategies that characterized many previous periods of high pricing.
Natural gas continues to play an increasingly important role in the evolving energy landscape. The EIA projects that natural gas will remain the largest source of U.S. electricity generation, accounting for roughly 40% of power supply in the coming years. Rising electricity demand driven, in part, by expanding data centers, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and broader electrification across the economy is expected to support continued demand for reliable natural gas resources.
Recent geopolitical events underscore the critical significance of securing domestic energy resources. Disruptions in global supply chains and ongoing regional instability can rapidly influence energy markets, further emphasizing the strategic value of dependable American production and the ongoing demand for highly skilled professionals within the energy sector.
The work performed by land professionals remains foundational to ensuring the efficient and responsible development of energy resources. This is exactly where OCAPL and its core purpose comes into play! By investing in professional development, expanding engagement with professionals, and fostering collaboration across the industry, we can help ensure that the land profession remains strong and well-positioned to meet the demands of the future.
